HABITAT/ENDEMIC: 40-120 feet along cliffs and very rocky edges in Lake Tanganyika
DIET: Crustaceans, insect larvae, frozen foods and freeze dried food and flake (brine shrimp, blood worms, mysis, and krill to name a few)

PH: 7-9 slightly alkaline medium hard to hard water 12-15 dgh
TEMPERAMENT: Medium aggressiveness to aggressive (especially during breeding or superfluous females)

TANK MATES: Can be kept with similar size Tanganyikan fish if in large enough tank (lelupi, brichardi, julidochromis are a few)
FILTRATION AND SETUP: HOB ,mechanical and canister filters work great. They should have lots of rock work and caves, crevices and niches are a must. These fish like dark places to hide out in.
COLORATION: They are torpedo like shaped and are mostly black with tanish colored vertical bars with pronounced lyre tail like fins. white spots on fins a pronounced white and black outline on fins also. There eyes have a orangeish yellow ring around them. very beautiful fish.
BREEDING: Substrate spawners who lay around 5 -20 eggs. These fish fiercly protecet there eggs and fry. Male and female both protect territory while female guards eggs. 4 to 5 days for eggs to hatch and 6 to 10 to become free swimming . (recommend species only tank due to extreme aggression during breeding).
