HABITAT/ENDEMIC: Rocky shorelines of Lake Tanganyika to depths of 50 feet.
DIET: Carnivorous, easily accepts all types of live ,frozen and freeze dried foods.(brine, tubofix and bloodworms, brine shrimp and flake to name a few).
TEMPERATURE: 72-78 Degrees
PH: 7.5-9 and 10-20dgh and moderately alkaline, medium hard to hard water
TEMPERAMENT: Usually non aggressive but can be with smaller Cichlids. (aggressive when breeding).
TANK SIZE: 29 Gallon tank minimum
TANK REGION: Lower to mid tank
TANK MATES: Can be kept with other Tanganyika fish of similar size. (if breeding should be kept in species only tank due to aggression during breeding).
FILTRATION AND SETUP: HOB ,mechanical, or canister filter will work fine. they desire rocky formations with caves, many niches and shells. Gravel or sand can be used also.
COLORATION: There are so many morphs of brichardi each is a little different! They are slender sexy fish with every fin elongated and pronounced tips. The majority have a facial mask which extends through the ocular region, all the fins are usually outlined with a fine white line. They are also usually a light bronze color with some speckles through the body.
BREEDING: They are a shelter breeder which lay between 100-200 eggs. The female stays with the eggs until hatching in 3 to 4 days and become free swimming around 6 -10 days after hatching. They are also stepped breeders in which several generations of young help to take care and help defend the newly hatched fry.
