Here's the thread where we've been discussing HR669.
HR669

I've already signed the petitions on MFK and AC.

Check out this video. It describes how we can all help stop this legislation. Only one week left.

My letter is on the way. In addition to the prewritten parts of the letter, I added a bit of background and pointed out the negative impact federal legislation has had in the past when it interfered with Wyoming's rights to take care of our own business:

I have been an avid aquarist for 26 years, and have had extensive experience with nonnative fish species and several species native to the state of Wyoming. I have maintained approximately 250 species of nonnative fish and successfully spawned over 100 of those. I can't imagine having my most beloved pastime taken away.

With the emotional plea aside, Representative Lummis, I would like to state this is repetitive legislation. Every state has legislative regulations in place banning the import of harmful and invasive species. A review of the Wyoming Game and Fish Regulations, Chapter 10 Regulation for Importation, Possession, Confinement, Transportation, Sale and Disposition of Live Wildlife will provide an excellent example of state regulations in place to accomplish exactly what this bill claims to attempt. Providing examples from other state regulations is not convenient in this correspondence, but appropriate regulations exist in the regulations of every state. State regulations are appropriate for the ecosystems and climate for the state they affect, and do not impose unnecessarily on the rights of the individual. I would like to point out that the effect of federal legislation concerning wildlife has been less than beneficial to the interests of Wyoming in the past. I'd like to cite the reintroduction of the gray wolf and the listing of Preble's meadow jumping mouse as an endangered species as examples. Management of native and nonnative wildlife is a function best left in the realm of state government and wildlife agencies.

I am a Wyoming native with a Bachelor's degree in Zoology from the University of Wyoming. My focus in college was in Wildlife Management. H.R. 669 does nothing to protect our native species from invasive wildlife better than Wyoming's current legislation does already. It does unjustly impose on every individual's rights, however, on the whim of individuals with special agendas.

Have the phone number and gonna get an snail-mail letter sent off as well. Shoots, might just drop it off at her Cheyenne office tomorrow.

Very nice. Much better than a lot of the OH NOES!!1! I've seen so far online.

I found out today, thanks to the PA parks services guys, my congressman Jim Gerlach's office is about 5min from my house. I went down with them since they set up an informal appointment. (Good thing it was informal, I brought the two smaller kids.)

I have to say I had very mixed feelings about it at first. I thought he was full of crap, since he has a very schmoozy lawyer feel when you talk to him, but once he realized we weren't pitchfork and torches wielding nutters he relaxed a bit and was much better. We all got to talking some, and after a few minutes told us to wait a second and he'd show us "proof" how he wasn't for hr669. So waited we did, and then we followed him back into his office. To which he presented his 75 gallon tank with a handful of African Cichlids.

So we got at least one on our side, hopefully. Smile
