Whipped up a batch of snail jello and I thought I'd share it with everyone.

What you will need
Spinach
Frozen Broccoli thawed
Summer Squash
cucumber
knox gelatine
calcium powder or pill form
Food processor
9x13 baking pan.

Cut up the cucumber, squash and broccoli and place into the processor.
Add the spinach and calcium. If using pill form cruch up with a Mortar and Pestle.
puree the veggies and add 1/2 to 1 cup of water, make sure you dont turn it into a soup.
Pour puree into a mixing bowl and mix in 4 packets gelatine. Heat 3 to 6 cups of water (depending on consistency of the pure) and mix into the puree. Stir until the gelatine is dissolved (ruffly 5 min). Pour mixture into the baking pan and refrigerate until the gelatine sets (about 3 hours). Then cut and serve.

You can always sub out the veggies for baby food but I think thats cheating

The snails love it. I put in a 2"x2" cube and its gone in 10 minutes.

Nice recipe. If you're lazy I have also heard people use baby food vegetables which are already pureed for you. I'm gonna have to try this.

How long will this keep? Do you freez the extra for future use?

Hi guys!! It will keep up to a month in the freezer. It doesn't take much for the snails but you will come to see that fish love it also. I'm lazy, I use the baby food but it is very important to heat the baby food for about a minute in the microwave. Also do not use a mixer when putting the gelatin in, it will cause air bubbles and the jello may not sink for you.
You will want to find the calcium content on the baby food. I use sweet potatoes as my snails go ga-ga over it. If I can find the exact recipe I use I will post it here.

What sort of snails are you feeding this stuff too? If memory serves you guys got pretty/fancy snails. Are they picky as well?

I have a tank full of apples. The tank is affectionately referred to as the dumpster. Any leftover feeder fish parts from the turtles, ends of veggies or any other dead things (worms that don't get eaten) go in. There's 15 adults in a 35g hex. No matter what I put in they manage to make it vanish very very quickly.

Except for romaine end nubs, any other food I put in there is gone within an hour or two. If they could at 24 hours they'd tap on the glass to feed them again.

They lay eggs every other day or so, and if I don't pick them out they'll eat them as well.

LMAO!!! I have brigs and they aren't picky eaters. This just makes sure they are getting the calcium they need to make their shells grow well. It only takes a few minutes for me to make this so it's not really a problem.

I haven't noticed any problems with shells being weak yet, but then again I suppose fish bones have calcium too.

My big problem with snails is other fish. The apples are kinda brutes, but I have a small handful of mysteries that I swear are the most easily picked on snails I've ever seen.

It's like they see fish and expose themselves wearing a big eat me sign. At least the apples have some sense of self preservation.
