PostSubject: Wanted: Asian/Malasian Box Turtle - Cuora amboinensis   Tue Feb 10, 2009 7:07 pm

A while back I took in a pile of Cuora amboinensis from Animal Control from a Chinese food place. There was a male and a female in really bad shape (impacted, shell rot, worms ect.) that I was working on cleaning up to eventually breed them.

At the time the male didn't make it. I still have the female, and she's now, except for some rough patches of shell, pretty healthy. I'd like to find another male to eventually breed them. They don't seem to be very commonly sold as pets that I've seen, but this is the first time I've been looking to actually buy a turtle in a very very long time. Smile

Anyway I left a message for a rescue group in Colorado, but according to their website they only ship Delta Dash which is stupid expensive, to airports only and a *gigantic* pain in the nuts. (I've never seen it be any better for smaller animals either) I'm going to see if I can convince them to ship UPS, but we'll see how that works out.

Either that or convince someone who lives in Colorado to ship 'em UPS instead. Wink

Thanks. Does he have a website. Searching on his name isn't giving me much in the way of info besides screen savers. Smile

'Bout 75 miles. I'm lookin' at three weeks before I can get down there, though. I have weekend duty the next two weekends and can't be more than 50 miles from the plant in case of an emergency.

These are boxies. They're only semi aquatic. Natively they hang in rice fields. You can ship 'em with good padding and moist paper towels. Not that it matters I talked to the director of the rescue and I'm not sure what the problem is, but they refuse to do anything but airport shipping. Let's see, animals to buy are between 30 to 50 bucks, and you want me to make make a donation of $55 per turtle and then pay at least $120 for shipping? At least I know why most of their animals are long term now. Wink

Ed, Thanks. I tried contacting that dude you found, but he's got nothing right now. On the plus side though he knew of a pro baseball player that lives in South Jersey and breeds 'em. I talked to him, and if all works out I should have another male and female on friday.

Yes I'll take pictures. As I'm sure someone will ask. Wink
