Has anyone here ever used the Tahitian Moon Sand? Is it pretty clean or is it silty and need to be washed out rigorously before putting it in the tank? I bought a bag for my 29 gal and was just wondering if anyone had used it before. I hope 1- 20lb bag will be enough. I figured since it was the same footprint as a 20L that it should be enough.

Great! Thanks for the info. I love the look of the black sand. Feel free to chime in if anyone else has had any experience with this sand.

Not sure who makes that one, but the Seachem one was mega dusty and needed some *major* rinsing.

It's made by CaribSea Inc. Well I guess I'll find out and report back on my findings. I'll slowly be cleaning and setting the tank up through the weekend so it will be soon.

Oh wait. Caribsea? I forgot all about that brand. I got a bunch of bags of the Super Naturals: Zebra and that stuff was a dusty mess. It rinsed off really easily but still, fairly messy. That being said, it was also in the clearance section at the petsmart, so it may just be the bags were beaten around a whole lot. At the very least, test a batch first.

Thats what my tank looks like with Tahitian moon sand. To rinse the sand I dumped the entire bag into a 5 gallon bucket and ran water into it untill the bucket over flowed. I let it go for 5 min and then dumped out most of the water and repeated the fisrt step untill the water ran clear. Tis sand is very Fine and will get sucked up when you do a grav vac. I reccomend skimming the top of the sand rather than sticking the vac into it.

| Well I can't contribute to how dusty it is or not but I can say I have been thinking about getting some. Let us know how it ends up turning out! _________________ "There he goes - one of God's own prototypes - a high powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production.
