Smoke pours out of your dash? My ford exploder had a ton of smoke comming out of the dash yesterday that smelt like burning wood. My heater wasn't on so I dont think it was my heater coil and I noticed a small puddle of oil under the engine. :angspmd:

It usually means that you are about to spend ALLOT of money. Smoke coming out of the dash is never a good thing, and oil puddles aren't good either. I know very little about fixing cars, but I do know that neither of those symptoms are good. Good luck.

haha i can fix anything, smoke from dash and oil leak huh, did it make any funny noises before it started smoking/leakin?? If it smelt like wood then you know its not wiring, Have you over heated recently??

Check and see if theres bubbles in your oil, check your antifreeze too for discoloration

do you know where the oil is leaking from??

It started hard but it was very cold and it usualy does that. I've never over heated.

The oil I think was comming from the oil pan well at least thats where it was wet from oil. I had it towed to the shpo and I'll know more in the AM.

Thanks! depending on how bad it is I might be getting a new car. My explorer isnt inspected and I'm going to have to drop about 1500 go get everything fixed so it will pass inspection. If its going to cost 2 to 3 hundred dollars to fix this new problem we are going to the hell with it and get a new car.

Sounds like you'll be getting a new car then. I can't get anyone here to open the hood on my car for less than $200. Granted its a Mercedes ML series, but its still ridiculous.

I don't know fords, but worked on VWs and BMWs.

Was it tough to turn it, when you were driving? The smoke may also be a power steering leak.

did you check your oil and antifreeze?? any irregularity's?? like a white foam??

Well I got the call and it was............ PINE NEEDLES! yup I had a ton of pine needles on my restrictor fan which has a bare electrical wire so when the truck was turned on the pine needles ignited and caused the cab to fill with smoke.

Uh. So just where are you driving that thing? So lemmie guess, $350 for a roll of electrical tape to "fix" the problem?

It's funny, all your talk of trucks, and where I live (it's truck land) I've been tempted to look into putting a bull bar on my beetle.

The mechanic just cleaned out the fan and called it good. I havent picked it up yet so I dont know how much its going to cost me.
