| I was at my local fish club meeting last night and the speaker mentioned that there was a recall on the stealth heaters. I've been trying to track down information on this and found that Petsmart is helping with the recalls and giving refunds for returned heaters. From what I understand they include anything 100W and up. I own 5 of these and have had problems with a couple of them. I am planning to return a few of them tomorrow and I'll let you know how it goes. I'd also like to know if anyone else has heard of this or may have more info than I do.
Apparently the stealths used to be made in Italy and the quality was great and once they switched to being made in China several years ago, the quality went way down and now the recall. |

| lol...no...the heaters don't shut off and they overheat and boil people's fish. In one case the heater actually got so hot it cracked the glass on a fishtank and they had a blowout. I'll let you know what I find out today...if anything. |

| There is definitely a recall on the stealth heaters. My local Petsmart is exchanging them for the equivalent Aqueon heater which is a very similar heater made in Italy...not in China. Unfortunately I have to wait a few weeks. Because of the demand, due to the recall, they are out of stock right now. |

| Nope...just bring in your heaters and they will exchange them or give you store credit from what I understand. I think you can get cash if you have a receipt. I would call your local Petsmart before heading over there. Like I said mine was all out of replacement heaters. |

| Sweet, I returned mine last night, got the Fluval M series 200's in exchange. I did pay $5 a piece for them though. Actually funny thing a couple of my fish have been looking super stressed the last week or so, haven't been able to figure it out. Last night when I removed the heaters the one was about 100 degrees feeling and didn't cool down for about 30 minutes...I bet that one was about to start frying something. _________________ "There he goes - one of God's own prototypes - a high powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. | What a PITA, Dawg. I'm kinda likin' the climate controlled fish room. Shouldn't rub it in though, the way my luck has been the last year or so the heater I put in there will get recalled 'cuz it's overheatin' people's houses and burnin' 'em down, LOL. _________________ One can never have too many fish tanks.

| One of my stealths did stop working a while back and ended killing the fish because it was too cold. The heater was only 1yr old at the time. I had forgotten about that until this recall came up. Good thing I kept the broken heater but unfortunately I won't be able to get the fish back. |

| Well that explains it then. I've had 4 or 5 of the newer Stealth's fail in the last year. Every time I've called to get a replacement they've sent me a Stealth Pro. All this time I thought I just thought they were being nice. |

| I should of went through Marineland, probably could of got a better replacement. I feel good that I got some new stuff. While I am on subject, the Fluvals are not even as close to accurate as the stealths off about 2-3 degrees also the dial is hard to differentiate. _________________ "There he goes - one of God's own prototypes - a high powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. | Ya know, my experience with Fluval anything is relatively minimal, but I've had nothing but problems with the Fluval stuff I have had. For the cost of their equipment, I'd expect better quality. I won't buy Fluval again, myself. _________________ One can never have too many fish tanks.

| So I traded in all my stealths for the Aqueon heaters and I really do like them. They look a lot like the stealths but they have an indicator light that's green when the tank is heated to the proper temp and red when the heater is working. I love that feature. After all my trade in's I have enough heaters to heat all my tanks...I have one extra 150watt for a spare and $75 of store credit |
