My 2 honey gourami while they are in my 8 gallon biocube are not very aggressive feeders, letting the 2 badis badis get food before them. They will most often get the food off the bottom later. I've been advised to more them to my 29 gallon tank once it has cycled leaving the badis badis by themselves. Then the 2honey gourami would first be with x-ray albino pristellas (a group of 5). Has anyone had experience with putting honey's with the x-rays?

My concern was that while 3 of the x-rays were in a smaller tank with 3 neons (3 gallon tank) they beat the neons out of food.
So I decided to take the 3 x-rays out to use as starter fish for the 29 gallon. Tomorrow I'm buying 2 more x-rays to make a group of 5. When it's safe I was going to put the honeys in next. Then in a few weeks add a group of 5 neons. I plan to increase the neons to a group of 7 a week or so after that.

Just want to feel better about the honeys in with the x-rays in the bigger tank.

    Thanks for comments.

I think you may have it a bit backwards. Smile

I can't remember if it was a pearl or a regular, but I've seen a male gourami (or I'm pretty sure male) pick on a pristella before.

Trial and error, sometimes that is what it comes down too. I have no experience with this mix but it sounds like you do have options for a back up plan so give it a try and see what happens, if all else fails move them.

You guys (thanks a bunch for commenting) are right. It will probably take trial and error. I can see why people end up with multiple tanks. When I tell my LFS people about what my badis and honey gourami are doing, tjey are surprised. Perhaps it's the size tank?

I was surprised that my little pristella were running circles around the neons; I couldn't find any information on the web or from LFS people about that. When the 29 gallon is cycled, I hope by then to have the school of neons up to 7 when I add then to the 29 gallon and perhaps then they'll feel safe enough that I'll see a difference.

My guess is that the pristellas will grab the food from the top faster than the gouramis would. Sometimes you just have to drop food in different parts of the tank so they each get something.
