so I was just given a pair of Variabilichromis moorii, will these be ok in the long run in my mixed african tank? I have lake victoria, lake malawi and lake tanganyika cichlids in it aswell as 2 senegal bichirs.

I would say no if it were my tank but you may get lucky. They are very very aggressive fish. Even more aggressive when they breed. Although they will not get as big as some of your Malawi or Tangs they will be the most fierce out of what you have in there. If you put them in with the others I wish you luck.
