| We have several incomplete profiles posted by someone who is no longer here. I will give anyone 5000 rank points per profile that they re-do, and make their own. Now the profile must be in correct format and include the required information. The existing profiles can be used as a guide and I'm sure there is some good content that can be used. Then you can repost and take credit, but it has to essentially be your profile and you must come up with your own pic or ask to use one of someone elses, most people will let you use their pics.

| Ya talking about the native profiles and others recently posted by a recently banned member? Some of the info is alright, a lot is bogus. My main concern is the pics. I'm not sure a few of 'em may not be copyrighted. I start graveyards tonight; I'll get on it after graveyards, this weekend. I need to get back on updating and cleaning up the profiles anyways, since life is settled down a bit and I've got most of my mental faculties back to normal with the change in my meds.

| Paul, I as I said in the email do alot of research with fishbase and have their full written permission to use their info and pics however i just have to cite it.
I do believe their info is above and beyond since 95% of their info comes from first hand natural collecting.
I will PM you in a bit with a rough draft profile and you can see if there is anything you want to change or add. I have no issues getting permission.
catfishplanet.com does not allow anyone to use their info so just a heads up. |

| Thanks WGA. Fishbase is a great resource. I like it myself and use it as a cross reference for different books. IMO it's the most reliable source on the net for fish info and it's not prone to the exaggeration and bias of popular aquarium culture and lore in regards to size, care and other aspects of aquarium species. If you like, you can PM me with the draft for whichever profile you have.
Ivan
BTW Paul, I'm moving all the new profiles into the moderator basket until we can verify or replace the pics. After lookin' at 'em again, I'm certain I've seen some of the plates for the natives somewhere before. That makes me suspicious of all the pics. _________________ One can never have too many fish tanks.

| Will do, there is ALOT of info on fishbase as well that most people dont know is there, several of their words are links and contain even more indepth info on the species.
I am going to post "the synonyms table" to your PM I think it is the most sticky worthy thing for a fish forum.

| One of the things I started to do was add a synonym section to all the profiles with only the valid scientific name listed. Had some personal and health issues that carried me through the past few months, I plan on gettin' back to that very soon. _________________ One can never have too many fish tanks.

| This is just a breakdown of what it all means not for individual fish.
When I do my profiles ALL known names are listed with Science being first then trade, store ect.
I dont understand how people really know what they are buying in these LFS's, I got mine to have syno AND true common names listed on their tanks. He has sold alot more fish and with greater knowledge to his customers now. Yes an educated shopper is a dangerous being to a store owner however in this hobby its 1000% needed. |

| If we're redoing the profiles. wouldn't it make the most sense to just scrap the pics that are there?
If you want to still use them I can try and hunt up if any of them are copied and where they may be from. There's a few good search tools for images out there.

| Well it looks like you guys have taken this head on... I was talking about keeping the profiles and yes we need to scrap the pics. Ivan, thanks for moving them to the mod basket, don't get overwhelmed, I intend to help and will prob do so tonight and throughout the next week or so. WGA, thanks for the suggestions, I love that you are already helping us out here, that is what we need!

| Hey man, Im in the hobby too and i started out like everyone else, however i started in the pre interweb days and didnt have this vast knowledge at my fingertips.
besides what makes a better one stop shop then having all the info here and now rather then sending people to other sites where they most likely wont return after those first initial posts. |

| Even with your own forum, you helping here is awesome. Once indoor migration hell is over, I'm going to try and at the very least get profiles done for all the long term residents here. I'd love to say I'll do a profile a week, but there's a number of babies here right now and I've been filling in on a bunch of the "easy" surgeries while my cohort has the palsy shakes from the lyme meds he's on. (He says they're easy. I near crap my pants doing them) I have pictures from almost all our rescues here too, so if anyone needs a picture, feel free to ask me. If I got it, you're welcome to use it. |

LOL, ditto. Set my first tank up in 1983. Unfortunately this "vast knowledge" can be deceiving at times; it provides a lot of opportunity for misinformation to be spread on a wider scale at a more rapid pace. I also see what I refer to as "pop culture" on various sites. A few charismatic individuals state their opinion or practices and those statements become gospel. I stopped frequenting a site because of that phenomena. All but got myself banned. lAfter 27 years in this hobby, I've learned there is often more than one way to skin a catfish...

| Thats why I am here, too many other forums are biased towards high posting members. I used to street race and it seems fish forums are no different then car forums when it comes to knuckleheads.
Yes there are a few ways to skin a catfish. I usually nail mine to a tree then strip the skin then fillet and fry. hehehe nom nom nom |

| So is this for anyone to do or not?
I asked about the procedure on submitting for approval and never got answered, the posts in question are moved to some "mod" basket
So is this more for a mod or selected people to do? |
