I agree with MC's theory. Most fish I see with HITH have come from poor conditions and poor diet.

Hey Ninja, maybe i missed it but did you post the depth of your 100gal?

They are messy eaters....very messy. Your pretty stocked now.

Thats a 90-100g tall tank, 61Lx13Wx27H from the looks of it, not 61Lx27Wx13H, I could be wrong tho. In any case a very odd shaped tank.

And I'll triple that. Sorry guys, this last set of graveyards kicked my ass and any kind of deep thought has been rough the past few days.

Looking good ninjastar.

So I was wondering what can I do about the messy oscar? Can I put some bottom feeders?

The biggest problem with oscars, and other large cichlids, is that the bottom feeders small enough to notice the morsels that the oscars drop are small enough for the oscars to eat. Cory cats, nom nom nom. Siamese algae eaters, nom nom nom. Smaller loaches, nom nom nom. A large pleco will get the larger chunks, but you'll need to supplement it's diet with algae wafers or blanched veggies, and it won't even begin to get all the smaller morsels that oscars are notorious for. Your best bet is probably pond snails, ramshorn snails, or Malaysian trumpet snails. They multiply and your oscars may or may not pick off extra snails that reproduce. You won't be upset if the oscars eat excess snails, I doubt you'll be happy if they eat a catfish that ya bought.

I would just invest in a python and do more water changes....the tanks dimensions are not really adequate for the Oscars adult size. As stated you got yourself a "tall" tank although volume is ok for them there wont be much turning room. A larger pleco would be ok but the growth rate of the Oscars and the growth rate of a pleco will not be the same. The Oscars will grow way faster than any pleco and likely make a snack of it. I would wait till they get bigger and just increase water changes for a while....Filtration is good for now...once they get bigger you will need more filtration, maybe 3-4 months from now.

I have a python one of the best aquarium tools, makes doing water changes a breeze.

That's what I thought and was why I was asking. The 13" depth won't be good for the O's at full size. I would say 18" depth minimum for an O.

Well in the mean time I will wait till they get bigger. And once they seem too big I will buy a 200gal tank
