Yes goldfish have breed standards just like dogs
Over few thousand year goldfish have been domesticated and cultivated many variation to the common goldfish have developed these are but a few of the most common varieties There are standards for the rare and my I say extinct varieties as well

Cool! Makes more sense now what I was looking at in your other thread. I think the ones that looked the strangest to me were Ranchu.

That is very cool. What book is that from? I saw the AGA when I was searching online, but didn't see anything fish related searching for GSA.

I think Flowerhorn have similar standards but in their own category. It is amazing how breeds have certain standards. I am glad there are hobbyists out there that still take that much pride in breeding....I would imagine it is hard to find a pair or pairs to meet standards in the first place.

GSA (Goldfish Society of America) was the organization that became AGA (American Goldfish Society) To me it's still GSA they wrote the handbook that is still in usage. I may have scanned those pages into my data base but I don't know for sure.

MC: Flowerhorn do have their own grading system. That local breeder that gives me his rejects for turtle food explained a bunch of it. Next time I talk to him I'll have to see if they have anything so well documented.
