They look really good. I've been thinking about making a pond myself. Please tell us how cheap and kind of walk us through a build of one of these.

Looks great! I tried one in my own backyard a couple years ago, a couple years ago, and really enjoyed it!

I like the idea of using it to grow out your own live food....don't you have issues with mosquitoes though? I stocked my own pond with some small goodeids, mainly to control mosquito larvae.

They are simply a stock tanks with landscape stone staked around it. Nothing to it really. The stock tanks are available at any farm supply store for a couple of hundred bucks. I have used both the medal and the plastic types. I like the plastic better because of the rust issue with the medal tank if you use a medal tank be sure to rise it off the ground to prevent the bottom from rusting out and try not to damage the finish of the tank. In either case they are good for 10 years

I use a growth regulator call Methoprene which is a juvenile hormone that prevents larvae from successfully changing from a pupa to the adult insect. The larvae are present in the water but that as far as they ever go.
It also is used on domestic animals (pets) for controlling fleas
