Hello everyone nice to be here. I guess i should start with a little about my self. I have been fish keeping most of my life back into the seventies when my father bred Angel fish as a hobby. I my self started off breeding African and south american Cichlids for fun them moved into selling. I no longer sell fish but buy them i do....lol. I am presently running 2 tanks a 90 gallon and a 230 gallon. I like to collect Bichirs from Africa, Tiger datnoids, Asian Arowana's, Stingrays, a few chiclids, and some eels. I have been or still am a moderator on other sites such as Hardcore Aquatics, which is in a complete over haul and The Amizonian. I love collecting fish and helping others out with them.

Welcome, I myself want to breed angels and I have a 4 inch Senegal Bichir in a 29, but that's only temporary, I will move him when he hits 6 inches to my Aunt's tank I guess.

Angels are quite easy to brees and are fun to watch. they breed vertically like discus and when they are mature just add some slate on the ends of your tank in a vertical postition. I start off with high protein food such as blood worms and usually a water change will get them going if they are mature. I have also used peat to soften the water but this is not really nesscery they breed in my tap water all the time. hardness is 280 ppm and a Ph of 6.7. good luck

What would is the smallest size tank in Gallons could a pair live peacfully in a community?
Also, would a piece of polished granite, 9 inches long x 2 inches wide x 1 inch thick work too?

Yes the granite should work if its smooth and they do live in communities but can be agressive and fin nipping from time to time. a pair is good but i would recomend a group like 2 males and 3 females to ease tension in the tank. i would also recomend a 33 gal tank minumum but 48 gal long or 55 gallon would be even better. I've seen them in 20 gallon tanks and they are cramped for space. remember a full grown angel can get 6-7" tall if they are healthy.

How about a 29 that's 17" tall? Also, would some or the medium size tetras, like Serpaes and Glowlights be good tank mates? I'm setting up one of my 2 29 gallons in the new room once it's painted and finished. Also, would 2 HOB filters, and a sponge filter be sufificent as filtration?

I would try a 29 gallon just watch for aggression, as long as the smaller fish are fast and not fin nippers. I once had a large male angel that ate rosey red minnows any chance he had? i didn't think there mouths could handle it but wow agressive little fella's.

Good luck with Grandpa. Tell him you might become a marine biologists...lol hope i spelled that right. Oh and More info on angels i keep mine at 80 deg F usually untill i want them to breed and i will up the temp to 84-85 deg F. Also let the pair breed a few times to get confortable with it and to make sure everthing is working. Then if you plan on raising the fry i would remove the fertalized eggs in to another tank because fry are not safe from adult fish eating them. I can help you set up that tank when the times is right . Rememeber, have fun.

Well, I actually want to be a marine biologist when I grow up, thats why he puts up with my 2 29s. I will try to persuade him, plus he knows alot of people so, he could probaly get a deal somewhere. I'm also secretly saving up for a 10 gallon or 2 for fry when my HRP's get it right. Female is huge and has breeding tube down now.
