HABITAT: Endemic to lake Tanganyika on the southeastern rocky littoral zone on the coast line.
DIET: Large Arternia, mysis, mosquito larvae either frozen or fresh, and Will also eat flake food.
TEMP: 74-82 degrees
PH: 7-8.5 Medium hard and neutral to slightly alkaline 10 - 15 dGH
TEMPERAMENT: Aggressive and intolerant of con specifics and should only be kept in pairs!
TANK SIZE: Minimum tank size 29 gallons.
TANK REGION: Bottom to mid.
TANK MATES: May be kept with other Tanganyikan cichlids. Neolamprologus lelupi, N. brichardi, Julidochromis regani and other Julidochromis sp.
FILTRATION AND SETUP: HOB, mechanical, canister, will be fine. Gravel to sand substrate with lots of rocks and niches to hide in.
BREEDING: A cave spawner, lays 50-200 eggs which the male then fertilizes. The female tends to the eggs, both parents guard the eggs and territory vigorously. The eggs hatch in 5 to 7 days and become free swimming in a week (fry may not be seen for up to 3 weeks after spawning). It takes the fry awhile to venture farther than an inch away from the cave.
COLORATION: They are a light white cream color with thin brown vertical stripes, with blue underlined eyes, Fins have a blueish outline with some white speckles on them .
