If you want some for comparison I can take some of the Red Bellied Pacus I have. If you're really desperate last I was there the fish store by me has Piranha.

I've kept a few in the past, when I managed a couple of pet shops back in the 80s. Three different times a Red Belly or two would come in with a shipment of wild caught small silver dollars. Usually within a day or two, all of the silver dollars would have nipped fins, and it was real easy to spot the impostor(s). I would take them home, because I refused to destroy a fish because of a wholesaler's mistake. Mark

Having never kept piranha I never knew just how similar the pacus look to them. The jaw line is slightly different but otherwise you'd have a hard time telling them apart.

Your right. Pacu have more of a rounder nose than RBP's. The other way you can tell a RBP from a pacu is RBP get to be about 12" and Pacus can grow to the size of a truck tire Mark I dont know if your state does it but I can get any fish thats on the band list as long as I have a Import and Possession permit. For $50 I think its worth it.
