Yup. Some literature says they'll hit 24", but I've never seen a common pleco that big.

My first pleco ended up 15-16" inches long. I got him in the late 80s and he died in 2005. It lived in every house and apartment I have except the current one, which I bought after he passed on. I think they're cool fish, but too often forced to live in too small tanks.

Nice fish Mike.

It may be something with wild or outdoors.

My mom would put her common pleco out in one of her ponds for the summer. She told me she got it in 85 or 86 and started putting it out for the summers probably in 90 or 91.

When that one died in 2003 we made her measure it and from tip to tail it was 20 and 3/4 inches.

When my kids were small they wanted a tank of their own, so I set them up with a juvie oscar and pleco. Not sure how old the kids were when we bought the fish, but my oldest son was in his early 20's when the pleco finally passed, so we came awful close to that mark.

In their own way, they are really beautiful fish. Poop machines....yeah, for sure! But they kinda grow on you after a while, and vacuuming the poop is just one more thing you do. Smile
