Humor: If it can go wrong, I am the one that it will go wrong to. Thankfully I am fully aware of that and am prepared and laugh it off the best I can.
Favorite Fish: Dano's, Tetra's and sharks though I have to wait until I have room for a 250- gallon tank plus in my room for my sharks as I want 6 bala sharks, live plants snail or two, and an algae eater and pleco once I stop killing them.

I started out using T.C. Tetracycline, not realizing it would take more than one box to treat the size tank I had. I haven't been well and it's not hard to let things slip by me. Returned to store today to get another box and they were sold out. I was told that Erythromyicine (spelling) would be acceptable to finish out the treatment and I don't question that. I had to start treatment on tank 6 (I have seven- and each is numbered in order I got them) So now I am treating tank 4 and 6, and they foamy stuff at the top is driving me up the wall. When can I clean that off, and how do I go about doing it? Do I just let the filter clean most of it?

Next question is Tank 4 doesn't have it's own heater and even if it did, I would have to unplug a light to plug up the heater, but do I take a heater out of tank 5 to put in 6 and risk making that heater sick, then when I put it back in it's own tank the fish would get sick. That is my tetra tank.

I have had the worst luck with the Molly tank. I keep losing mollies to all different things. So we are treating it hard and swift with the heater up to 80. When do I turn it back down? Soon I hope.

The Guppy/dwarf platy tank, I lost two fish only both to two different types of tail rot, and they were both pregnant fish, almost due and platys. I am very sad.

Thank you all in advance for any advice you give. Please don't tell me give up the snails and use salt because I love my snails. Maybe one day I will set up my ten gallon as all snails, but I have to stop and pick it up first it's at my g/f's. :hiding1:

Hmmm I would keep doing what you are doing....move the heater if needed just let it dry out and rinse with bleach before putting it back in the other tank. 80 is not that high I would leave the temp up at least 5 days after the last treatment. Sorry for all your losses...hope all work out and good luck!

Thank you. My tank is blood red- that is my 40 gallon tank and I just keep wondering when will it ever clear up. It just keeps getting redder and redder and it's getting where the fish can't see where they are going. "wondering" did I get a bad batch of medicine?

I agree. I am going back to the store tomorrow and I will see if it will hurt to take 24 hours off and let the charcol filter some of it out, then remove and start again. There is this horrid green foam at the top and I fear we will never clean it out.

Hubby agrees we should pick up the 10 gallon and put the snails in it and go to AQ salts. So we are going Snail hunting. I know there are two in the big tank and that they mated.

I was going to suggest move the snails and give a dose of 2 tsp per gallon of salt along with heat.

Tetracycline will turn your water red/maroon/purple. Yes it gets darker as it oxidizes in the water, this is normal and not a problem. It will also make it foam. You didn't get a bad batch. Water changes and using carbon AFTER treatment will work it out.

It is not not not a good idea to switch antibiotics mid dosage. Tetracycline and Erythromycin are two different things that handle a different range of things.

If it's an advanced enough case, you can alternate both on a daily basis for two doses and then do a day off with a water change followed by another round of dosing. I save that one though for severe cases though.

We are going to start on AQ salt starting tomorrow and hopefully no other treatments will ever be needed again. My Best Friend swears by it and says it will be the only thing I ever need. I have removed my snails, and put them in a 15 gallon tank, and will be counting how many are in my 30 gallon and dividing them between so that there are never to many in the either so that they clean out the algea of the ahead of the pleco's, and bottom feeders/algea eaters. So I hope I am on the right track because I am adding new fish tomorrow and I do not want to lose any of them. I am praying that there is enough of the medication in the water that it will stablize anything that might be brought in. I am also thinking about holding off on the salt one more treatment of the last we are using and picking some of that up so that I get a full dose of at least one type of antibotic.

my wheels are turning and I will do the right thing!

Sounds like you are doing everything you can. I wish you luck. I just wanted to add that you need to make sure to increase the aeration of your tank. With higher temperatures the water carries less oxygen.
I wanted to ask, why did you raise the temperature? Are you treating for ich?
What kind of snails do you have?
With fin rot constant water changes are a must.

I have mystery snails and apple snails (yum yum dinner) Kidding, I don't eat my live stock, or pets.

I want to get some fainting goats this summer but my Hubby is being a stick in the mud. He still won't let me buy my bunny hutch and have a bunny ranch. What I mean by bunny ranch is raising babies to sell. Same with the fainting goats. Can't make money off my fish, or snails but Bunnies and goats, and peacocks are priceless if you can have enough on hand. raising eye brows and lowering them Wink
